Roadside Treasures:
Celebrating the often overlooked beauty of nature's own wildflowers

They said to me,
"Look at us, closer, closer. . .
We are ignored, stomped upon, mowed down.

"Look at us, closer, closer. . .
Notice our beauty, our subtlety, our determination.

"Learn from us, if you will.
We have value.
We will survive. . .and thrive."

About
In nature, lessons abound if only we look closely. Along the roadsides in my home State of Maine, I learned a valuable one about resilience, determination, and survival against all odds. These flowers, commonly overlooked, caught my attention when I noticed one day they were blooming and the next day, mowed down. I was disappointed, but only for a short time, because in a week or two they were back!

Captivated by the undaunted energy of these wildflowers (sometimes considered weeds), I took a closer look. What I found was surprisingly beautiful. Camera in hand, I tried to capture the positive spirit I so admired in them. Please enjoy the photos of these roadside treasures—they are indeed nature’s gifts.
